Kinshasa: The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reported 1,873 confirmed Ebola cases across five provinces, with the death toll rising to 672, according to the latest update from the country’s health authorities.
The outbreak is currently affecting Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele and Tshopo provinces. Haut-Uele and Tshopo have been included in the national Ebola situation report for the first time, indicating that the outbreak has expanded into new areas.
Health authorities said 763 patients are currently in isolation or receiving treatment, while treatment centres are operating at an occupancy rate of 95.1%, highlighting the growing pressure on the country’s healthcare system.
The report also confirmed that 306 patients have recovered, while 299 suspected cases, including 91 deaths, are still under investigation.
The current outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain, was officially declared on May 15. Health officials continue to monitor the spread of the virus and strengthen surveillance, isolation and treatment measures in affected provinces.
