Kuwait Makes Digital Payments Mandatory Above KD10 at Private Hospitals

Kuwait City: Kuwait has introduced a new regulation requiring all payments above KD10 at private hospitals, medical centres and clinics to be made through approved electronic payment systems or bank cards.

The directive, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, came into effect on Monday and applies to all private healthcare institutions across the country.

Under the new rules, cash payments exceeding 10 Kuwaiti dinars will no longer be accepted. The ministry said the measure is aimed at improving financial transparency, strengthening oversight of transactions and encouraging wider use of digital payment systems.

Authorities warned that private healthcare facilities failing to comply with the regulation will face legal action. Serious violations could result in temporary closure of the establishment, in addition to other penalties under the law.

The move forms part of Kuwait’s broader efforts to modernise payment systems and enhance transparency across the private healthcare sector.
