The public transport sector in Saudi Arabia has recorded significant growth, with passenger numbers reaching 420.6 million in 2025, according to the Transport General Authority. This marks a 129 percent increase compared to 183.3 million users in 2019.
The announcement, made on the occasion of World Public Transport Day, highlights the Kingdom’s efforts to reduce traffic congestion, enhance quality of life, and lower environmental impact through improved mobility solutions.
Between 2024 and 2025 alone, the sector saw a 61 percent rise in usage, while the first quarter of 2026 recorded a further 20 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Bus services have expanded significantly, now covering 17 cities and governorates, up from just four in 2019.
Other transport segments also showed strong performance. Taxi trips exceeded 377 million between 2019 and 2025, while ride-hailing services recorded 548 million trips, reflecting a 64 percent increase. Rail services also contributed to the growth, including usage at King Abdulaziz International Airport and the train network at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.
Officials said the continued adoption of advanced technologies and expansion of services are key to building a modern, efficient, and sustainable transport network across the Kingdom.
