Young stars dominate Indian Premier League with record breaking rapid fifties

The 2026 season of the Indian Premier League is witnessing the rise of young batting stars, with several emerging players rewriting records for the fastest half centuries in tournament history.

Leading the list is Abhishek Sharma, who has become the first player in IPL history to score a half century in fewer than 20 balls on six occasions. The explosive Sunrisers Hyderabad opener has consistently delivered aggressive starts and now sits comfortably at the top of the record list.

Close behind is Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants, who recently smashed a 16 ball fifty against Mumbai Indians to register his fifth half century under 20 balls in the IPL.

One of the biggest surprises of the season has been 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Rajasthan Royals. The teenage sensation has already scored three half centuries in just 15 balls this season, achieving four sub 20 ball fifties overall and emerging as one of the league’s brightest young talents.

Jake Fraser McGurk of Delhi Capitals has also achieved the feat three times, while Travis Head continues to trouble bowlers in the powerplay with three rapid fifties to his name.

Meanwhile, Priyansh Arya has impressed fans with his fearless batting for Punjab Kings, also recording three half centuries in fewer than 20 balls.

Despite the flurry of rapid fifties this season, the record for the fastest half century in IPL history still belongs to Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan Royals, who reached the milestone in just 13 balls.

The season has highlighted a major shift in IPL batting trends, with fearless young players increasingly dominating experienced bowlers through ultra aggressive batting displays.
