GREEN PASS TO COVISHIELD, RECOGNISED BY EIGHT EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

Kuwait City: India's pressure paid off. Eight European countries have approved India's Covishield vaccine. Covshield is recognized by Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland. With the inclusion of Covishield in the list of approved vaccines, barriers to travel in these countries will be removed for those who receive the vaccine.

From July 1, only those who have received two doses of the approved vaccine will be allowed a green pass to travel to Europe. Those who are not are advised to go to the compulsory quarantine. The central government has been tightening its grip on the EU's Digital Covid 19 Certificate or Green Pass, which came into force on July 1. India has said it will take a similar approach to accepting vaccine certificates for European travelers to the country if Indian-made vaccines are not approved. The Center has decided not to accept EU certificates in India unless the Covishield and Covaccine certificates are approved for European travel and to enforce compulsory quarantine for those arriving in India from there.

Union External Affairs Minister S. Sivakumar has asked the government to include Covidild in its vaccination passport. Jayashankar had held talks with European officials.
