Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has reported a sharp increase in methanol poisoning cases tied to contaminated alcoholic beverages, with 160 hospitalizations and 23 confirmed deaths as of Thursday. Most victims are of Asian nationalities, with severe cases requiring ventilators and emergency dialysis in intensive care units across Kuwaiti hospitals.

The ministry emphasized that the majority of patients suffered critical complications, necessitating round-the-clock monitoring and specialized treatment. Authorities are coordinating with the Kuwait Poison Control Center, security agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance oversight and ensure urgent medical intervention for affected individuals.

In a renewed warning, the ministry urged the public to avoid illicit alcohol and report suspected poisoning cases immediately through 24-hour emergency hotlines. Rapid reporting is vital to enable life-saving care and prevent further casualties, as methanol poisoning can lead to organ failure and death.

The Health Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to tightening surveillance and cracking down on contaminated alcohol distribution. This incident highlights the dangers of unregulated substances, particularly within expatriate communities, and underscores the need for public vigilance and prompt medical attention in such emergencies.
