INTERNET SERVICE RE-ESTABLISHED

Kuwait City: The Communication and Information Regulatory Authority (CITRA) has certified that Internet connection has been restored following the early morning Friday cutting of Falcon underwater cables. The problem was fixed in a short period of time, according to the regulator, by using other international routes and cables in collaboration with Internet service providers. According to the GCX Company, which owns the cables, one of the cable cuts occurred 183 kilometres from Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman, heading towards Iran, and the other was 50 kilometres from Muscat, heading towards Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in addition to the Yemeni station, which has been out of service due to military operations.

The corporation has begun repairs, but the exact time frame will be decided after the ship gets at the cable-cutting locations — outside the Arabian Gulf on its way to Europe. The authorities noted that communications between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members within the Arabian Gulf were unaffected. Since March 2021, the authority has allowed investors to seek for licences to establish additional international land and sea cables, according to the authority.
