India Announces 5-Year E-Visa for Kuwaiti Nationals

Kuwait City: The Government of India has launched a new five-year e-visa facility for Kuwaiti nationals, enabling them to apply for visas entirely online without visiting visa centers or embassies.

The announcement was made by the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika, during a press conference at the Indian Embassy. The initiative, which takes immediate effect, aims to make travel to India faster, more affordable, and more convenient for Kuwaiti citizens.

The e-visa is available under five categories: tourist, business, medical, AYUSH/yoga, and conference. It allows multiple entries and offers durations ranging from six months up to five years. Visa fees start at USD 40 for short-term stays and go up to USD 80 for the five-year option. Applications are processed within three to four days, and biometric data is collected upon arrival in India.

Ambassador Swaika noted that the move fulfills a long-standing request from Kuwaiti nationals and is expected to boost travel for tourism, business, and healthcare purposes. “This makes the process faster, easier, and much more accessible. Over 8,000 Kuwaiti tourists visited India last year, and we hope to see that number grow significantly,” he said.

Highlighting improved connectivity, the Ambassador confirmed that there are currently 12,000 air seats available weekly in each direction, connecting Kuwait with nine Indian cities through direct flights operated by Kuwait Airways, Jazeera Airways, IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air.

While the new digital system is expected to make the process simpler for most travelers, traditional paper visas will remain available for applicants who prefer or require in-person processing through Indian Visa Application Centers.

The move aligns with India’s broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties with Kuwait by promoting more frequent and convenient people-to-people exchanges.
