Ajman:  A 12-year-old girl died after falling under a school bus in the UAE. The tragic incident took place on Tuesday evening. The driver was pushing the vehicle without knowing that the child was standing in front of the bus. Sheikh Hasan, a student of Umm Ammar School, died on the spot.

Ajman police said the accident happened around 3.45 pm. The student, who was approaching the house on the school bus after school class, got off the bus and was trying to get home in front of the bus. The driver pulled the bus forward without noticing that the child was standing in front and the tires of the bus went through the body. Police said there was no supervisor on the bus.

The security directives issued by the police last month specifically stated the need for all school buses to have supervisors. By law, there must be special staff to safely load children into and out of buses before they leave. It is the responsibility of these staff to ensure that children cross the road and are brought safely to their parents' homes at home.

Drivers must display a stop sign when boarding or disembarking school buses. Failure to do so will result in a fine of 500 dirhams and a fine of six black points. Drivers of other vehicles who ignore the stop sign on school buses will be fined Dh1,000 and fined 10 black points. The maximum speed allowed for school buses is 80 kilometers per hour.
