IMPORTED AND DOMESTIC GOODS PRICES HAVE RISEN IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: According to Kuwait's Central Statistical Bureau, the overall index of wholesale prices increased by 2.3 percent in 2021, reaching 141.7 in December 2021, up from 138.6 in December 2020. Imported goods prices climbed by 3.2 percent, while domestic products prices increased by 0.6 percent.


The report showed a 1.4 percent increase in the prices of agricultural and fishing materials between December 2020 and December 2021, as a result of a one percent increase in the prices of crop cultivation and animal production activities, a 0.8 percent increase in the prices of imported goods, and a 3.1 percent increase in the prices of domestic goods. 

The index for the "mines and quarries" group climbed by 8.9% as a consequence of price increases of 9.5 percent for crushed sand and stones, 7% for imported goods, and 11.8 percent for local items.

During the year, the "manufacturing industries" group's index climbed by 2.4 percent. This was due to a 0.1 percent increase in the price of food products, a 1.1 percent increase in the price of beverages, a 4.2 percent increase in the price of clothing, a 0.8 percent increase in the price of chemicals and chemical products, a 17.5 percent increase in the price of base metals, a 3.4 percent increase in the price of imported goods, and a 0.5 percent increase in the price of local commodities. 

The cost of raw materials, intermediate materials, and final materials increased by 1.9 percent, 7.2 percent, and 0.9 percent, respectively, when commodities were classified according to their stage of production.

The prices of consumables, capital materials, and materials grew by 0.9 percent, 0.8 percent, and 5.2 percent, respectively, in terms of end use.
