CAMPING SEASON WILL START ON NOVEMBER 15

Kuwait City: Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Environment Public Authority (EPA), says the camping season will begin on November 15. The camping season, she explained, will last three months. To ensure the implementation of the environmental law, all areas where camping is permitted will be covered with the cooperation of the Kuwait Municipality.

The authority will tighten its procedures for pursuing violators in the construction of earth mounds, the use of cement, and heavy equipment excavations in camping areas. They will be investigated with the help of the municipality and the environmental police, and legal action will be taken against them.

The authority, along with other state authorities, is still combing the various land sites and investigating violations. Since the campaign's inception on August 14, environmental police officers have detected a total of 160 environmental violations in various locations. Al-Ibrahim urged those planning to camp to avoid erecting earth mounds, digging, or using cement, to avoid high pressure towers, and to follow the rest of the requirements outlined in the executive regulations in order to avoid fines and protect the environment and public safety.

The following are the top ten environmental no-nos for the upcoming camping season:

1. Performing work that harms or degrades the natural environment

2. Creating any fixed facility with construction materials, such as earthen fences or mounds, to define camp boundaries.

3. Performing soil dredging operations or excavating on the ground.

4. Camp establishment using heavy machinery and equipment.

5. Disposal of all types of waste in camping areas

6. Ground and surface water pollution, destruction, or damage

7. Paving the camp with asphalt, cement, or other environmentally hazardous materials

8. Hunting, killing, catching, gathering, or causing harm to any wildlife or their young.

9. Waste burning in the open air. Grazing is prohibited in camping areas.
