FOOD AND DRINK PRICES IN KUWAIT RISE BY 4.15% AS CPI RISES

Kuwait City: According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Kuwait's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 4.15% on an annual basis in August of last year. Kuwait's inflation rate increased by 0.08 percent on a monthly basis in August as a result of higher prices across all major categories, particularly food and education, which move the key indices.


In August 2021, the consumer price index (CPI) for the food and beverage category increased by 6.89 percent when compared to the same month the previous year (2021), while the CPI for the cigarette and tobacco category only slightly increased, by 0.07 percent annually. 

Clothing saw an increase of 5.67%, housing services saw an increase of 2.17%, and furnishings saw an increase of 1.94%. In contrast to August of 2021, the medical group increased by 1.95 percent, and transportation increased by 4.3 percent. On a yearly basis, the communications group saw growth of 2.03%, while recreation and culture saw growth of 3.6% and education saw growth of 19.05%. 

On a yearly basis, restaurants and hotels saw an increase of 2.67 percent, while goods in general and other categories saw a 3.03 percent increase. A measurement that examines prices on a monthly or annual basis is the Consumer Price Index (CPI). In general, it serves as a fundamental gauge of economic expansion and contraction that policymakers use to determine economic decisions and formulate monetary and financial strategies.
