Kuwait City: In response to a complaint made by the grandmother of two girls whose mother beat and terrorised them, the Supreme Council for the Family and the Child Protection Office in the Ministry of Health interacted. The complaint, which the Protection Office received on the sixth day of this month, is about "a citizen's assault on her two daughters, one of whom is 4 years old and the other is 7 years old, and threatening to burn if the abuse was disclosed."

Mai Al-Baghli, the minister for women's and children's issues, addressed the situation and disclosed that she was investigating the incident and its circumstances. She also stated that she had "directed the Secretariat of the Family Affairs Council to communicate with the case immediately and take the necessary legal measures regarding the incident in cooperation with the concerned authorities in the state."

Al-Baghli announced the creation of a "rapid intervention" team made up of the appropriate authorities to monitor incidents of abuse and violence against children and to enlist the help of all available resources through a programme of psychological rehabilitation to assist those who have been subjected to violence, abuse, or harassment in some way. The Child Protection Office confirmed that steps were taken to protect the two girls by submitting a report to the Juvenile Protection Department for research and investigation, to follow up on the legal issues related to the report. In addition, the Council attracted attention to its communication with the case and taking the necessary action.
