HOME DELIVERY BUSINESS OWNERS GET ANNOYED BY EMPTY MOI

Kuwait City: Small- and medium-sized business owners who hold licences for consumer delivery companies now face more challenges than before after the Ministry of Interior issued oral decisions, in their opinion, that make it difficult for them to carry on with their regular business operations and place numerous barriers in their path. When speaking with , the owners of delivery services—which collectively hold 320 commercial licenses—threatened to escalate the situation in order to address "the dangers of oral decisions issued by the Ministry of Interior, which threaten the national economy and disrupt the work of institutions, restaurants, and shopping centers," noting that they would "go for a sit-in and then strike" from their jobs in the event of continued unfairness and abuse.

They objected to the Interior Minister's directives ordering delivery companies to operate with fewer vehicles, which led to a reduction in employment and a greater reliance on cheap and marginal labor. They explained that the delivery company licence only allows for a maximum of 30 vehicles and 15 motorcycles, which means that 55 employees will either have to be deported or ejected from the labour force in order for the business to operate. They said that the growth in demand for delivery services increased by more than 40%, but reducing the number of vehicles and motorcycles and not allowing them to increase, made electronic applications and some commercial stores and supermarkets resort to ‘irregular workers’, because they need delivery drivers.
