STRICT REGULATIONS TO STOP FISH PRICE MANIPULATION

Kuwait City: In collaboration with the relevant authorities, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Emergency Team Leader for the Capital Governorate, Hamid Al-Dhafiri, has confirmed the implementation of stricter regulations to prevent market manipulation, protect consumers, report violators to the authorities, and regulate prices. According to Al-Dhafiri, the amount of fish traded in Souk Sharq, the law of supply and demand, and the fish seasons all affect how much different types of fish sell for. He reaffirmed that the ministry's teams are working assiduously to find infractions, particularly commercial fraud and arbitrary price increases.

Sharq Fish Market holds two auctions: one for importers at dawn and one for local traders after afternoon prayers. These auctions are overseen by teams from the ministry, the public authority for food and nutrition, and the public authority for agriculture affairs and fish resources with the intention of preventing fraud or other irregularities in the auction.
