KD 156,000 IN DAMAGES WILL BE PAID BY TWO DOCTORS FOR MALPRACTISE

Kuwait City: The Ministry of Health and two of its doctors were found guilty of medical malpractice that caused the death of former MP Falah Al- Sawagh, and the Court of Appeals ordered them to pay KD 156,000 in damages to the former MP's heirs.


The two doctors had previously been sentenced to one year in prison and a bail amount of KD 5,000 each by the Criminal Court, based on a complaint made by Attorney Dr. Youssef Al-Harbash. The two doctors were found guilty of medical malpractice after an operation in the hospital that resulted in the death of the former MP Falah Al-Sawagh. The court then made this decision. 

According to the report submitted by the committees of the Ministry of Health, the Forensic Medicine Department, and the College of Medicine of Kuwait University, which were delegated by the court to study the case of the manslaughter of former MP Falah Al-Sawagh, he had died as a result of medical errors. 

It was established that the procedure he underwent caused a type of bacterial blood poisoning. The Saud Al-Babtain Center for Burns and Plastic Surgery employed three doctors, one of whom made a medical error that led to Al- Sawagh's death, and the family of Al- Sawagh brought a lawsuit against them. After presenting evidence that the doctors had made a medical error that resulted in Al-death, Sawagh's they demanded that the Ministry of Health and the doctors jointly pay them KD 5,001 as temporary compensation.
