PAINKILLERS, UNFULFILLED PROMISES, THE GOVERNMENT HAS DONE NOTHING FOR CITIZENS

Kuwait City: More than a month has passed since the National Assembly was inaugurated, but the government has provided nothing to citizens other than painkillers and unfulfilled promises, according to MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri, Chairman of the Assembly's Financial and Economic Affairs Committee. He stated that he previously met with Finance Minister Abdulwahab Al-Rasheed, during which he urged the minister to address several pressing issues, such as lowering the interest rate on retiree loans to 1.5 percent; however, Al-Rasheed has yet to respond.

He went on to say that there appears to be a desire to demonstrate that the housing problem can only be solved through real estate developers or the mortgage system. He argued that this is a fraudulent scheme aimed at citizens, and that anyone who supports the mortgage system is corrupt and uninterested in solving the problem. He emphasised how simple it is to solve the housing problem by appointing an international company to implement a major housing project within a specific time frame.

Such a business, he continued, would carry out the project without the aid of a local agent or a national representative, with the completion of the project guaranteed by the nation of the business. He continued by saying that some parties are eager to portray the Assembly as a failing institution by holding it responsible for delays in accomplishments. He reaffirmed that before the end of the first year of this parliamentary term, the Assembly will ratify all bills deemed advantageous for citizens.

Meanwhile, Budgets and Final Accounts Committee Chairman MP Adel Al-Damkhi disclosed that the meeting scheduled for Sunday ended early due to the unexcused absence of the Financial Controllers Bureau (FCB) chairperson. He considers this action a way of disrespecting the committee and the Assembly, indicating the team that attended the meeting was headed by the acting chairman and deputy chairman of FCB. He wants to convey a message to all ministers and heads of public institutions that they must respect the committee and attend its meetings, unless they submit a valid excuse.
