AMIR COMMUTES THE SENTENCES OF SOME KUWAITIS

Kuwait City: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree on Monday granting a number of sentenced citizens special amnesty. "According to the order of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and in completion of the file of amnesty for Kuwaiti citizens and in line with the provision 75 of the constitution, His Highness (the Amir) issued today decree 2018/2022 regarding the special pardon halting the imprisonment sentence for a number of Kuwaiti nationals," said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Barrak Al-Shoitan. 


In a statement issued following the cabinet weekly session, Minister Al-Shoitan stated that article 1 of the decree provided for a special pardon with regard to the freedom restraining penalty that had been imposed on a number of Kuwaiti citizens for crimes committed between November 16, 2011 and December 31, 2021. The decree's second provision stated that a special panel would oversee the implementation of the decree's first provision and prepare lists of eligible prisoners who would be released immediately. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, will chair the commission, which will also include the public prosecutor and the interior undersecretary. The minister concluded that it will hold a meeting on Thursday to begin its work. 

The Cabinet held its weekly session at Seif Palace under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Monday. Following the session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for cabinet Affairs Barrak Al-Shaitan said that the session kicked off with a briefing by Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs regarding attendance of the Representative of His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the accompanying delegation of the inauguration ceremony of the World Cup (FIFA 2022) in Qatar.
