Hackers use earthquake to spread ransomware virus

Kuwait City, Feb 22: Mohamed Al Rashidi, Chairman of the Cyber ​​Security Committee of the Electronic Media Union, warned that a ransomware virus link is circulating in the name of video of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria . Many companies in the country have been victims of this virus. Once the link is opened, all files are encrypted and this fraud method is to demand money in exchange for this encryption.

Hackers often create fake links to watch videos of earthquakes, with the aim of encrypting files. Victims would be given 24 hours time limit to pay after being hacked. In case of non-payment, personal files and company files will be completely destroyed. But even if the money is paid, there is no guarantee that the files will be returned, officials said.
