Father of green revolution dies at 98

The world's most famous Indian agri-scientist, known for his work on the Green Revolution and for being the father of economic ecology, M.S. swaminathan, died on Thursday, aged 98. His work in the 60s and 70s was so groundbreaking that it helped India avoid widespread famine and eventually become self-sufficient in food production. He was even called the "father of economic ecology" by the UN Environment Programme.
