Kuwait City; The general manager of  Al-Durra International Domestic labour company, Bassam Al-Shammari attended a zoom meeting with a group of Kuwait and Filipino domestic workers offices to discuss the current situation of Filipino domestic workers in Kuwait.

He said that, during the meeting they warned of the increasing problems faced by Filipino domestic workers in Kuwait compared to neighbouring countries. They put forward a list of problems faced by Filipino workers which need to be resolved before it comes to a situation that Filipinos will be banned from sending to Kuwait.

According to the list, they  pointed  out  the  need of  a comprehensive treatment of the rights of Filipino workers and stress the importance of adhering to the terms of the work contract between the worker and his sponsor. To ensure the rights, the Department of Domestic Labour  should review the mechanism of dealings between the worker, the recruitment office and the sponsor and should allow worker's rights to be guaranteed by recruitment agencies.

The recruitment officers should   open the door to defend the domestic workers that it brings before the official authorities, especially the Domestic
Labour Department. There should be a guarantee period of 6 months for the worker to the commitment of the sponsor towards him as well in terms of fulfilling the terms of the contract in relation to salaries, vacations and the number of working hours. They must ensure the implementation of the provisions for a decent life for the domestic worker such as adequate food, drink and housing. And in cases of disputes, the procedures needs to speed up so that the workers won't be forced to stay in the shelter for several months. And along with that they should  stop  reserving the employment cases and bringing them for trial  without following up with the workforce attorney.
