Doha: Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the ruler of Qatar, has ordered the resumption of diplomatic relations and the appointment of an ambassador to Saudi Arabia after a four - year embargo. The new Qatari ambassador to Saudi Arabia is Bandar Mohammed Abdullah Al Atiyah. New ambassadors have also been appointed to Belgium, the European Union, Panama, Cuba, Italy and Georgia.

In 2017, Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, imposed sanctions on Qatar. Diplomatic relations were severed and the borders closed. The four-year embargo was lifted in January this year. Since then, relations between the two countries have grown stronger. In June, Saudi Arabia appointed its ambassador to Qatar, who arrived in Doha.
