Kuwait City: Kuwait's foreign population is declining due to the crisis following the covid, according to a new study. The survey, conducted by the National Bank of Kuwait, reported the lowest level in three decades. Foreigners saw a decline of 2.2 percent last year alone and 0.9 percent in the first half of this year. In two years, the number of returnees increased to 190,000. The survey also found that the number of foreigners in the country's total population was as low as 68.2 per cent.

According to the latest figures, the current population of Kuwait is around 46 lakhs. The repatriation and epidemic in the country has forced thousands of expatriate families to leave the country. In the last corona period alone, it was down 3.1 percent. The return of expatriates is expected to have a strong impact on the Kuwaiti employment sector as well. Many sectors are already experiencing a severe shortage of skilled labor.

Meanwhile, the native population recorded an increase of 0.9. The study revealed that the growth rate of Indigenous children under the age of 15 continues to decline. It was only 0.1 per cent in the first half of 2021, compared to 0.6 per cent last year and 1.0 per cent in 2018. The survey found that one-third of the indigenous population is under the age of 15 and is likely to put more pressure on the labor market in the future.
