Kuwait City: The decision not to renew the work permits of those over 60 who do not have a university degree may be revoked this week. Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Manpower Authority Board of Directors, Dr. Abdullah Al Salman has called a board meeting. The meeting will discuss the reversal of the decision of the Authority Director General Ahmed Al Mousa.

Al-Salman's move comes after the ministry's fatwa and lessening department commented that Manpower's decision not to renew work permits was legally wrong.

The board of directors of the Manpower Authority may approve the revocation of the decision not to renew the work permits of those over 60 years of age who do not have a university degree, sources said.

The power to renew a work permit rests with the Board of Directors of the Manpower Authority and not with the Director General of the Authority. In addition, the board of directors is going to cancel the decision in case it does not stand up legally.
