Riyadh: Saudi Arabia takes tough action to protect the environment. If a tree is cut down without permission in the country, a fine of Rs 4 lakh (20,000 riyals) will be imposed for each tree cut down. Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman has ordered stern action.

The law came into force immediately. Citizens who cut down trees like this the other day were punished. The incident took place in Taif in the western province. Three Indigenous nationals have been fined for cutting down trees without permission. They had to pay Rs 4 lakh for each tree they cut down.

With the onset of winter in the country, trees are being cut down for firewood. Saudi Arabia bans logging and poaching. In some places trees can be cut down with prior permission. But getting permission is not easy. Similarly, hunting is allowed only in certain places during a particular season. About 500 million trees are being planted across the country to green Saudi Arabia.
