Kuwait City:  Kuwait plans to turn five northern regions into nature reserves to restore the desert environment. The work is being carried out in collaboration with the Environmental Police and the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries on behalf of the Home Ministry. Suggestions have been made to evacuate these areas.

Umm Qadir, Al Awasim, East Al Jahra, Al Liyah and Al Shakhaya will be converted into nature reserves. Following the brutal invasion of Iraq, the use of radioactive materials caused pollution and destruction of Kuwait's wildlife and soil. Sources said the sites would be evacuated and fenced off to prevent them from entering.
