BLOCKING NETFLIX IS A CASE AGAINST MINISTRIES

Kuwait City: A case was recently filed in the High Court, demanding that Netflix be blocked throughout the country. The lawsuit was filed against the ministries of information and communication, as well as the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA). The 11th Administrative Department will decide on the case on May 25, according to the court. The case was filed by attorney Abdulaziz Al-Subaie, who stated that Netflix recently produced and broadcasted an Arab film that sparked a wave of public outrage due to its call for moral decadence in several scenes; explaining that this work directly addresses the Arab family and an attempt to change God's creation.

According to Al-Subaie, the platform attracts young people with the goal of forcing the Arab world to ratify the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Because the agreement does not prohibit relationships outside of marriage, he believes this is a violation of Islamic beliefs. He claims that because a big number of young people use Netflix, they may be influenced by the content it offers, particularly those that promote dissolution and perversion.
