Kuwait City: In light of the "Corona" pandemic, according to the Central Administration of Statistics' quarterly report, Indian and Egyptian workers led the list of expats departing the local labour market. The number of Indian workers fell by 16.1%, while the number of Egyptian workers fell by 9.8%. There are apparent implications of the "Kuwaitization" policy that a number of ministries pushed through over the recent decade, according to the perspectives of experts and observers on the implementation of the replacement programme. As a result of the departure of expats, Kuwaitis' representation in the overall government sector climbed from 76.6 percent to 78.3 percent, while the percentage of Kuwaitis working in the private sector increased from 4.3 percent to 4.7 percent in 2021. According to the survey, this is primarily attributable to the departure of 146,949 expats from Kuwait in the previous year.

According to the data, the percentage of non-Kuwaiti expatriates working in Kuwait fell from 81.5 percent in 2020 to 78.9 percent in March 2021. In terms of labour statistics as of the end of March 2021, the study revealed a 9.3% decline in expatriate employees (excluding family sector and domestic workers), with 1,947,497 individuals in March 2021, a decrease of 198,666 individuals from March 2020.  Based on the figures reported by the Statistics Department, observers of the labor market movement in the public and private sectors attributed the high percentage of Kuwaitis in the government sector to “the adoption of a number of decisions during the last period on the implementation of replacement policy and Kuwaitization plans and the endeavors to end the services of expatriate workers.”
