Kuwait City: On Tuesday, the World Bank Group praised Kuwait and 22 other nations for their efforts over the last year to economically empower women. The World Bank stated in its latest annual Women, Business, and the Law (WBL) report, "Despite the disproportionate impact on women's lives and livelihoods from the global pandemic, 23 countries modified their laws in 2021 to take much-needed measures towards improving women's economic inclusion." According to the WBL 2022 study, the most reforms were done in the Parenthood, Pay, and Workplace metrics globally.

The WBL Index improved the most in the Middle East and North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa areas in 2021. Concerning the Middle East and North Africa, the research stated that the region's laws improved the most as a result of reforms in five economies. "Gender discrimination in the workplace is illegal in Kuwait." Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, and Oman all improved their legislation, according to the report.

"While progress has been made," said Mari Pangestu, World Bank Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships, "the disparity between men's and women's predicted lifetime earnings globally is USD 172 trillion - than twice the world's annual GDP." "As we strive for green, resilient, and inclusive growth, governments must speed up the pace of legal reforms so that women can fulfil their full potential and benefit fully and fairly," she added.
