INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF VACANT FLATS IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: Many apartments in the country are reported to be vacant. This is according to a study conducted by the Real Estate Union. The number of unoccupied apartments is estimated to have increased by 61,000. There are a total of 396,000 apartments in the country. The average occupancy rate for an apartment is 84.6%. Salmia is home to the largest number of foreigners in the country. , Hawali is second with 1811 buildings and Abbasiya is third with 1181 buildings.


Dasman leads the way with an average monthly rent of apartments of 1,081 dinars. The monthly rent is 512 dinars in Al Shaab, 464 dinars in Sharq, 352 dinars in Jabriya, 338 dinars in Sabah Al Salem and 327 dinars in Salmiya, according to the Real Estate Union report. Abbasiya and Khaitan topped the list of areas with the lowest average monthly rent, with an average of 210 dinars. Abu Khalifa with 240 dinars and Farwaniya with 244 dinars are close behind. The reason for the increase in vacancies is the drop out of foreigners and the elimination of high-rent apartments. 

Many foreigners have relocated their families and moved to bachelor rooms following the Covid crisis. The Covid epidemic has also reduced the rent of apartments by 10 to 15 per cent, the report said. There are a number of vacant flats in Fahaheel, Jalib Al Shuyoukh, Mangaf, Abu Halifa, Salmiya and Khaitan. Boards for rent are on the front of most buildings
