WORLD CUP 2022 :THE AFRICAN WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS HAVE REACHED THE FINAL

  • 25/03/2022

Africa's arduous road to the 2022 World Cup will be resolved over the next five days in Qatar, when its five spots are confirmed. In two-legged play-offs, ten nations compete, with the format resulting in some heavyweight combinations. Egypt and Senegal face for the second time in less than seven weeks, this time for a place in the Africa Cup of Nations final. Sadio Mane won the African title ahead of Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, and one of the two star strikers will now lose out on a berth in the global extravaganza later this year. All five ties will begin on March 25, with the return legs following four days later. For the first time, the African World Cup play-offs will have Video Assistant Referee technology in use.

Both countries competed at the previous World Cup, although neither advanced beyond the group stages in Russia. Senegal wants to make it to the finals for the third time, while Egypt wants to make it to the finals for the fourth time, and for the first time in a row. Aliou Cisse has retained the majority of the players who helped Senegal win the Nations Cup for the first time in their history, as the Teranga Lions look to qualify for successive World Cups after a 16-year drought that ended in 2018.
