THERE IS AN UPSURGE IN STRESS AND SADNESS AMONG COVID PATIENTS IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: Stress and depression have increased among patients during the Covid epidemic. Following a complete and partial lockdown in the country, a questionnaire was prepared by about 400 outpatients at the Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit Hospital at Jaber Al Ahmed Hospital. 48.6% of respondents reported an increase in stress and depression. Fifty-four percent of respondents to the questionnaire reported that their health was satisfactory from the onset of the Covid epidemic to the present. But during the epidemic, 50 percent of people lost weight. 59% of respondents said that their nutritional habits had changed.


Twenty-four percent regularly ate foods high in sugar and starch during the epidemic, and 17.5 percent ate high-fat foods frequently. Only 31.8 percent were interested in consuming foods rich in vitamins and minerals during the pandemic. In addition, 23.8 percent of them admit that stress and depression increased during that period. It is estimated that 11% of people develop chronic diseases after the Covid epidemic.
