KUWAIT EXPERIENCES DUST STORM ON A REGULAR BASIS THROUGHOUT JUNE

Kuwait City: Dust storms are common in Kuwait in June, which is known as "the month of bawareh," and the dusty weather can also be found in July, according to Dr. Hassan Dashti, a weather monitor at the national meteorology department. The country's lengthy summer is marked by hot weather, which can be felt starting in June when the high atmospheric pressure recedes in favour of the Indian low pressure, which stretches to Africa and lasts until the end of September, according to Dashti.

Summer is marked by a lack of rain, extreme heat, and powerful winds, notably "Al-Bawareh," which begins in late May with "Al-Bareh Al-Sagheer (little)" and lasts until mid-July with "Al-Bareh Al-Kabeer (grand)" and causes dust storms, all while blowing from the northwest. The high heat is caused by the migration of Indian low pressure winds toward the Zagros Mountains, where the wind loses heat at a rate of six degrees per kilometre due to compression at the high elevation.

After rising, these winds descend, regaining a temperature of 10 degrees per kilometre, and rushing into Iraq, Kuwait, and East Saudi Arabia. These extremely hot gales may reach speeds of up to 90 km/h, creating dust and sand storms, reduced vision, and the cancellation of numerous navigations, among other concerns for people. After the storms go away, microscopic particles of the storms linger in the air, causing issues for allergy and asthma sufferers.
