Kuwait City: Consumers have been protesting about the persistent scarcity of chicken in cooperative societies and parallel marketplaces, despite the government's efforts to improve food security, manage markets, and avoid any shortages of vital commodities.

Following a surge in complaints from consumers and cooperative society officials alike about the severe scarcity of chicken and chicken products, inspection teams from multiple government agencies, including the Committee on the Food Security System, undertook a visit recently. The visit revealed the presence of a fake crisis created by some supplier businesses, which refused to supply the markets with their products in order to raise prices by 20%.

The visit, which was organized in several cooperative societies under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs, revealed an abundance of some products and a significant lack of others, particularly local poultry products.

Despite government officials' claims about the availability of goods and the abundance of food stockpiles, Abdul Rasoul Sarkhouh, the commercial advisor to the Zahra Cooperative Society, disclosed that there is a problem in the process of distributing local poultry products to the cooperative societies.

On the sidelines of the tour, he revealed that the problem of poultry shortages and the current crisis is a fabricated one produced by local poultry companies refusing to supply stores with their products owing to their desire for an increse in prices.
