NON-KUWAITIS ARE SEEING A DECLINE IN JOB MARKET, WHEREAS KUWAITIS ARE SEEING A RISE

Kuwait City: According to official labor market statistics released on Wednesday by the Central Statistical Bureau, the country's labor force has shrunk by 111,000 workers in the last year. As of the end of December 2021, Kuwait's entire labor force in the private and public sectors numbered 1.8 million male and female workers, down from 1.993 million the previous year. While the number of Kuwaiti workers climbed, the number of non-Kuwaiti workers of both genders decreased to 1.452 million at the end of 2021, a fall of about 134,000 workers from the previous year.


On the other side, the number of Kuwaiti workers in the Kuwaiti labor market climbed by 24,000 from the previous year to 430,128 workers in December 2021. As a result, Kuwaiti workers now account for around 22.8 percent of the whole labor market, compared to 77.2 percent for non-Kuwaiti workers. This is considered development for Kuwaiti employees, as their labor market share was about 20.4 percent at the end of 2020, compared to 79.6 percent for non-Kuwaitis. 

According to the figures, the Egyptian workforce continues to lead the total number of workers in the Kuwaiti labor market in both the public and private sectors, with 451,000 workers, followed by Indians with 437,116 workers, and Kuwaiti workers in third place with 430,128 workers.
