UK IS AFFECTED BY LARGEST RAIL STRIKE IN OVER 30 YEARS

  • 22/06/2022

Rush-hour commuters in the UK experienced pandemonium on Tuesday as railway employees began the network's worst strike in more than three decades. This forced some to travel to work on foot, by bike, or bus, or to just skip it altogether.

The RMT rail union claims that the strikes are required because salaries have not kept up with U.K. inflation, which has reached a 40-year high and is expected to continue to rise.

Over 50,000 RMT members will strike for three days this week after last-ditch negotiations to prevent it failed on Monday.

With only a skeleton service operating on several networks across the country, train and London Underground stations, which are often a sea of people during the morning rush to work, were desolate or even locked.

Passengers were advised not to travel over the entire week since two additional strike days on Thursday and Saturday would seriously disrupt timetables.
