KUWAIT IS CONCERNED ABOUT NEW IRANIAN NUCLEAR REACTOR PLAN

Kuwait City: In response to Iran's revelation that it plans to build a new nuclear reactor with a 360 megawatt capacity, MP Osama Al-Shaheen has proposed that the government establish a crisis squad in conjunction with the neighbouring nations. He recommended that the team evaluate how the nuclear reactor will affect the local environment and population's health.

According to the Kuwait Green Line Society, which he mentioned, the brand-new nuclear reactor known as "Darkhovin" is barely 81 kilometres from Kuwaiti borders. In order to ensure everyone in the region is safe, he made it clear that his suggestion cannot be seen as interfering in the internal affairs of other nations and does not go against the good neighbour approach.

On Thursday, the Assembly Office met under the direction of National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim. The meeting was attended by MP Ahmed Al-Shuhoumi, Deputy Speaker, MP Farz Al-Daihani, Assembly Secretary, MP Ahmad Al-Hamad, Chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, and MP Adel Al-Lugani, Assembly Secretary General.

On the other hand, MPs Abdulkareem Al-Kandari and Muhammad Al-Huwaila encouraged the government to set up an emergency committee to deal with the severe rain that is anticipated to hit Kuwait after recent experiences in certain neighbouring countries.

Additionally, MP Muhammad Al-Mutair sent inquiries concerning the Kuwait Investment Office in London to Abdulwahab Al-Rashead, Minister of Finance and State Minister for Financial and Economic Development. If the international law firm Quinn Emanuel conducted investigations, the results of those investigations, if the answer is yes, whether the head of the office has been found innocent, whether the office's profits in 2021 are higher than in prior years, and the office's profits and losses over the previous five years. He also inquired as to whether Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) had met with the office's head since his appointment in 2021.

He asked if a Greek was employed by the company. If so, he requests information about the employee's name, education, income, any complaints made against them, and whether they have ever been suspected of being involved in financial irregularities. Last but not least, Al-Ghanim wished Maria del Carmen Alva Prieto, President of the Peruvian Congress, a happy National Day.
