Kuwait City: According to recent statistics, Kuwait has more than 2,800 cancer patients annually, of whom half are residents, according to Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, chairman of the board of directors of the Kuwait Anti-Smoking and Cancer Society and head of the society's cancer patients fund. Their way of life is negatively impacted by this. Therefore, patients need to receive ongoing support.

He clarified that the support offered by the Kuwait Center for Cancer Control's Cancer Patients Fund includes everything from monthly assistance to patients whose files the fund receives, including their medical and social reports to assess their conditions from specialist doctors, to developing a treatment plan.

The fund enables a cancer patient who has advanced disease to travel to his country to be with his family, paying for all associated costs. The fund also provides the patient with a sum of money to help him live in his country until his condition stabilises. According to Al-Saleh, "Free Umrah (minor pilgrimage) trips are provided for cancer patients and their companions, demonstrating a special interest in the spiritual aspect of care in addition to providing for the patient's financial and psychological needs. In order to facilitate Umrah trips for these patients, these spiritual journeys involve a delegation of expert medical and administrative teams.
