A fire that started in the early hours of Tuesday at a Ugandan school for visually impaired children has claimed the lives of eleven children. Four more people are receiving hospital treatment and are in a critical condition.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire at the boarding school in Mukono, which is east of Kampala, the capital. In 2008, Buddo Junior School experienced one of the worst school fires in the nation. Nineteen kids passed away.

The affected dormitory at the Salama School for the Blind is estimated to have had at least 27 children sleeping inside. Parents in distress have gathered there.
