Domestic Worker Found Dead in Kuwait Apartment; Employers Detained on Murder Suspicion

An Asian domestic worker in her thirties was found dead in her employer’s apartment in Kuwait’s Al-Shaab Al-Bahri area, leading to the detention of the Arab employer and his wife on suspicion of murder. The husband initially reported the death as natural, but forensic examination revealed second-degree burns from hot water, along with fractures and bruises on the victim’s body. Security personnel, detectives, forensic experts, and the Deputy Public Prosecutor responded to the scene after the Ministry of Interior received the report.

Investigators registered the case as premeditated murder based on the evidence of physical trauma. During initial questioning, the wife admitted to beating the maid “lightly” after alleging the maid had assaulted her child, but claimed she later discovered the maid dead in the kitchen. When asked about the burns on the victim’s body, the wife stated she had no knowledge of how they occurred.

Authorities are awaiting the final forensic report to determine the exact cause and time of death, as well as to clarify the nature and sequence of the injuries. The investigation continues to examine whether the death resulted from sustained abuse, a violent altercation, or other criminal actions within the household.

The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about the protection of domestic workers in Kuwait, where legal and advocacy groups have long called for stronger safeguards and transparent investigations into the deaths and abuse of migrant household staff. The detained couple remains in custody as the Public Prosecution prepares to proceed with legal action based on the findings of the forensic and criminal investigation.
