Heavy Rain Paralyzes Dubai Airport; Emirates Cancels Flights, Roads Flooded

  • 19/12/2025

Heavy rainfall has caused severe travel disruptions at Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, leading to flight cancellations, road flooding, and widespread passenger delays. Emirates canceled over 13 flights from Dubai to destinations including Kochi, Frankfurt, Incheon, Colombo, Muscat, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The airline advised passengers to arrive at the airport at least four hours before departure due to waterlogged roads and difficult access to terminals.

Roads leading to the airport were inundated, making it challenging for taxis and private vehicles to reach the terminals. Authorities urged travelers to use the Dubai Metro to avoid traffic congestion and ensure timely arrival. Major highways, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, saw key exits closed, while traffic came to a standstill in Sharjah’s Al Khan Bridge, Al Wahda Street, and the Dubai Investment Park area.

Intercity bus services between Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman were temporarily suspended due to unsafe road conditions. The UAE’s National Center of Meteorology forecasts unstable and cold weather to continue until next Tuesday, with a possibility of hail in some regions. Police have advised residents to avoid non-essential travel and adhere to official safety instructions as patrols intensify in affected areas.

Emirates and other airlines are working to accommodate affected passengers and adjust schedules amid ongoing weather challenges. Airport operations teams are actively managing water accumulation on runways and aprons while coordinating with road authorities to improve access. Travelers are encouraged to check flight statuses regularly, allow extra transit time, and follow updates from official sources until conditions stabilize.
