Tourists andjobseekers from five countries in South Asia must meet certain requirements tofly into the emirate, airlines and travel agencies said on Monday.Pakistanis, Indians,Nepali, Bangladeshis and Afghans on visit visas must carry at least Dh2,000($545) and be travelling on a return ticket.Proof of a hotel stayor a relative's address is also required.
Pakistan InternationalAirlines and several travel agencies shared official documents from Dubai'sGeneral Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs immigration servicesetting out the requirements.About 200 are waitingfor repatriation at Dubai International Airport.
Ibrahim Elshamy, fromDubai travel agency Reds Travel and Tourism, said it had begun notifying itsclients about the rule.He said passengershave for many years been required to produce a return ticket and show they hadenough money to live off.“I think the rule isbeing enforced heavily now to prevent these workers from being scammed frompeople who say they will give them a job, if they come on a visit visa first,”said Mr Elshamy.
