Armenia and Azerbaijan to commence peace talks

  • 30/04/2023

After weeks of escalating tensions over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, Yerevan announced on Saturday that Armenia and Azerbaijan will hold a new round of talks in Washington on April 30 to attempt to normalize relations. Armed forces from the two Caucasus neighbors have frequently engaged in gunfire amid disputes over the mountain enclave, which is recognized internationally as belonging to Azerbaijan but is primarily populated by ethnic Armenians. Despite numerous years of attempts at mediation, no peace treaty has been reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
