Spain opens its new Royal Collection Museum

When the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in northern Spain first opened 25 years ago, the architect Frank Gehry-designed, curved, titanium-covered structure was just as much of a draw for art enthusiasts as the exhibits inside. Next week, Spain will open the eagerly anticipated Royal Collections Gallery in Madrid, a modern eight-story structure perched atop a famous hillside close to the Royal Palace. The new museum, which cost €172 million ($186.8 million), debuts on June 29 and features 650 pieces from five centuries.
