Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital announced the vascular surgery and catheterization team, led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Fawaz , accomplished an important achievement by “performing the first operation in the Middle East to repair an aneurysm in the arch of the thoracic aorta (Thoracic Aortic Arch Aneurysm) by surgically modifying the stent to suit the sizes and branches of the patient’s arteries, then implanting it via a catheter.
The hospital explained, in a press statement today, that the technology used is a safer alternative compared to traditional, custom-made stents that are very expensive, and which contain stents in the blood vessels leading to the brain.
