While a government source informed Al-Qabas that the new traffic law is a top government priority, and is currently being studied and scrutinized in the final stages, in preparation for its approval. He explained that the Ministry of Interior submitted a report to the Council of Ministers, recently, in which it confirmed that some of the current penalties are not a deterrent, especially with the increase. The large number of cars, urban expansion, and high rates of serious violations on a daily basis, which increases the number of traffic accident victims.
He pointed out that some traffic fines will jump by 300%, compared to the current law, in order to deter reckless people. In addition, the Director of the Security Media Department at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Nasser Busalib, revealed a proposal that is currently being worked on, which is “home seizure” of cars, so that the violating vehicles are impounded at home.
