His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, has extended his congratulations to Emirates Airlines on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, describing the carrier as a "national pride." The airline, which began operations on October 25, 1985, has grown from its humble beginnings to become one of the world's leading aviation brands, connecting over 150 cities globally. Over the past four decades, Emirates has transported more than 860 million passengers, playing a pivotal role in Dubai's development journey.

The airline's inaugural flight was an Airbus 300 leased from Pakistan International Airlines, which flew from Dubai to Mumbai. Starting with an initial capital of $10 million and operating in a competitive environment, Emirates was founded with a clear vision to excel in the aviation industry. Today, it boasts a modern fleet of Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s with an average age of 10.7 years and has over 300 new aircraft on order to support its future expansion.

Sheikh Mohammed specifically thanked Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Chairman and CEO, and the airline's workforce of more than 100,000 employees for their crucial role in this remarkable success story. From its first flights to Karachi and Mumbai, Emirates has expanded its network to more than 160 destinations across over 85 countries, solidifying its status as a major force in global aviation and a symbol of the UAE's ambitious growth.
