Kuwait City : The electricity load index marked a steady rise for the last two days and crossed the 12000 MW mark as high temperatures pushed consumption forward. The Meteorological Department reported a temperature of 41 degrees Celcius during the period. The Ministry of Electricity and Water has further forecasted the index to reach 13000 MW levels as the start of working hours will force higher consumption in the coming days. In addition to this, faults in underground lines and overhead cables in the distribution network have contributed to high power usage levels. It is expected that the consumption rate s to attain a peak of 15,677 MW this year, while the total capacity of production stands at 18,470 MW. Meanwhile, the rate of freshwater production has also exceeded consumption by 40 million gallons. The sources further reported that the surplus production is usually used for maintaining the strategic reserve, the ministry's reserves stand at 3765 million imperial gallons at present.
