TheUAE and three other countries have been included in Britain’s driver licensingauthorities' list of regions in which citizens need not pass any other drivingtest if they are moving and planning to reside in the United Kingdom (UK).

UAE,Taiwan, Ukraine, and the Republic of North Macedonia were added to the list of22 countries for this program.

The22 countries and territories in which the driver licenses issued in theEuropean Economic Area (EEA) are valid includes Andorra, Australia, Barbados,British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, FaroeIslands, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Republic of Korea,Republic of North Macedonia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan,Ukraine, the UAE, and Zimbabwe.

Thecountries outside the EEA which have issued driving licenses as India andPakistan are only valid for driving in Britain for one year; after this period, the driver must obtain a British license.

TheDVLA said it has plans in place to identify potential issues and added:“Countries/territories are notified when one of their licenses is exchanged andare expected to advise if there appears to be an issue e.g., there is noofficial record of that license holder. Evidence of repeated issues withexchangeable licenses will be raised with the relevant licensing authority andexchange arrangements reviewed if necessary.”

Italso said: “We consider that any risks with allowing the exchange of licensesissued by these countries/ territories for the specified vehicles are low anddo not justify withholding the benefits that it would provide to individuallicense holders.”
