Dubai: The tragic situation of having to bury the bodies of those who died of covid abroad abroad without even being able to see them at a glance is changing. The demand of the families of the expatriates has been raised for a long time after the body of the Malappuram resident who died due to covid in the UAE was brought home yesterday.

The body of a Malappuram Nilambur resident who died yesterday was brought home and buried in the family grave as the laws in the country and the UAE were relaxed so that even positive bodies could be brought home. The body was repatriated by Hampas volunteers. Instead of embalming the body, sterilization should be done.

Prior permission of the District Medical Officer should be obtained from the home country. The body could not be stored for more than 14 hours as it was not embalmed. So the cultural process will have to start as soon as it is repatriated. Although UAE law relaxed the ban on repatriation of positive bodies in February itself, it took time for it to take effect in India.
